No.1(P) Air Sqn (Fly) NCC was raised on 15 Dec 1986 as a flying unit by DGNCC due to lack of essential infrastructure for flying at Pondicherry, which has been revoked as a flying unit during 1999 & an operational flight is being raised since then. Presently, the required manpower, one glider, two Microlight and one winch has been allotted and one Winch on loan from 2(TN) Air Sqn to this squadron. Glider and Microlight Flying activities of this squadron was inaugurated on 29 Nov 2001 by Her Excellency Dr Rajani Roy, Lt Governor of Pondicherry, along with Honourable Chief Minister of Pondicherry Thiru N Rangasamy, Honourable Education Minister of Pondicherry Shri K Lakshmi Narayanan, Commodore JP Abraham, DDG, NCC and other Chief guests.

     Microlite flying training was given to 171 SD/SW cadets and all SD/SW/JD cadets were given air experience in Microlight. Glider Flying Training was stopped due to flight safety and the Glider has been allotted to 1 (TN) Air Sqn NCC, Chennai. During this year, 02 JD ANOs Commissioned.

     200 SD cadets have been enrolled against an authorized strength of 200 from Tagore Government Arts and Science College and Community College Pondicherry. 50 SW cadets have been enrolled from WPT&BGCW Pondicherry and100 JD cadets have been enrolled from Veerama Munivar High School & Petit Seminaire Hr. Sec School, Pondicherry.

TRAINING
INSTITUTIONAL TRAINING
     All training activities are conducted/imparted in the Group HQ, Complex. Parades are conducted by PI Staff along with ANOs in the Group HQ, Parade Ground. Lesson plans are executed by the PI Staff and surprise checks are conducted for PI Staff at the unit level under the direct supervision of CO. The AMI is conducting regular training of static aeromodel and flying model training, simulator flying training is carried out by AMI/PI staff for the cadets as an assistance to regular flying imparted by the CO. Cadets are detailed to assist on the departments like Health, traffic etc for on job training, blood donation and community development activities.
FLYING/GLIDING
     This squadron has inaugurated Glider and Microlight flying on 29 Nov 2001. Her Excellency Dr Rajani, the then Lt Governor of Pondicherry along with Honourable Chief Minister of Pondicherry Thiru N Rangaswamy, Honourable Education Minister of Pondicherry Thiru K Lakshmi Narayanan and Commodore JP Abraham, DDG, NCC inaugurated the Flying activities of Glider and Microlight aircraft of No.1(P) Air Sqn (Fly) NCC.

     This unit is imparting flying training to the cadets on both Microlight aircraft. 271 cadets (SD/SW/JD) were flown on Microlight aircraft (250:57hrs) and the Glider training was stopped due to flight safety and the Glider has been allotted to 1 (TN) Air Sqn NCC, Chennai.

History of the unit
During the year 1963, this unit was raised as 55 Rifle Company and was affiliated to 17 Madras Bn NCC.

On 14th Jun 1964, the unit was re-organized as 1(p) Indep Coy NCC and in Aug 1964 it was again re-orgainzed as 1(p) Bn NCC with strength of 8 Officer and 1600 cadets.

The unit was re-organized in Apr 1968 as 1(P) Indep Coy NCC, Pondicherry . Two Platoons and One Troop is located at Yanam.
